I received the most beautiful, timely and amazing gift from my uncle. He texted me at 11:58pm January 1. 2 minutes before my birthday.
A friend of his shared a YouTube video with him. The YouTube video is of an 8 millimeter video taken in 1966 by a schoolteacher of a class trip to Valley Forge in an effort to convince the school principal to not cut class trips from the budget. It included multiple video shots of my uncle's brother, meaning... my father!!!
I think you guys already know that my father committed suicide when he was only 33, sadly. The only thing I have is his flag, and pictures of pictures from other people. To sit here and watch 26 minutes of my father as a 10 year old boy in motion on this old film took my breath away. I saw him running and building a project and sitting at his desk and getting on the bus. And the cars!! What a throwback! The teacher says his name several times, too. The video was shot almost like a mini movie, and my father just so happened to be the one who opened the door to the classroom in the beginning and at the end of the class trip, he closed it. It was all just so eerie and uncanny and magical and wonderful. 💕💕

ReplyDeleteDana, I'm adding it to the post now. His name is John D'Alusio and after the explanation the screen appears and shows students with names. My father is the first one whose name tag is hard to read from the glare, but the teacher says his name out loud.
